Amendment XIX



The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Great news, women are now allowed to vote thanks to this amendment. Oh wait, there are existing disparities between sexes. And let us not forget, there are additional disparities found among women 'of color', as many would refer them as.

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. In other words, is the punishment permissible? This amendment ensures that one who is accused will not be charged with absurd punishments. Though 'excessive' or 'unusual' is not defined, the court will determine what is appropriate for the accuser.  Or so they say. For the past decade, we as a nation has revisited the charges and punishments inflicted on different individuals for various accusations. One specifically, currently receiving attention on social media, is the intense charge for being found carrying small amounts of illegal substances. 

Amendment XIII

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. The abolishment of slavery. This amendment was passed by the Senate and H.O.R in 1864 and 1865.    However, although slavery was prohibited by 1865, its consequences exist today.
