Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Probable cause/warrants -- restrictions and rules police need to follow if they are engaging in searches or seizures. Some searches do not require a warrant if the police act accordingly.

This video thoroughly explains your rights as a citizen and the police's right as a government employee who is sworn to protect citizens. Most of us are exposed to this amendment in crime or detective shows and can clearly understand the significance of maintaining an enforced process for search and seizures.

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. In other words, is the punishment permissible? This amendment ensures that one who is accused will not be charged with absurd punishments. Though 'excessive' or 'unusual' is not defined, the court will determine what is appropriate for the accuser.  Or so they say. For the past decade, we as a nation has revisited the charges and punishments inflicted on different individuals for various accusations. One specifically, currently receiving attention on social media, is the intense charge for being found carrying small amounts of illegal substances.
