Amendement II

A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Let's talk about gun control! We share the right to bear arms without being infringed. Well, should we infringe by now? Given the increasing numerous attacks, massacres, and gun violence across the nation, several steps should be taken. Unfortunately, the U.S president does not wish to restrain gun ownership or act appropriately.

As a public health professional, public safety remains a priority for all communities. Let's take action! Here are a few steps we should take as a nation to increase safety for our children and ourselves:
1) Execute a Gun Reform - background checks (remove guns or any harmful weapons from individuals who pose a threat to our society, such as someone with a severe mental illness or with a criminal record, or if they're underage)
2) Dismantle the NRA (which is impossible, but a priority in my list)
3) Allow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to study gun violence.

Amendment XXVII

No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened. Madison's Amendment... 1789 - 1992  The last amendment clarifies that the congressional salaries cannot be altered until after the House of Representative election.

Amendment XIII

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. The abolishment of slavery. This amendment was passed by the Senate and H.O.R in 1864 and 1865.    However, although slavery was prohibited by 1865, its consequences exist today. Here is a trailer of a documentary highlighting this:

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. In other words, is the punishment permissible? This amendment ensures that one who is accused will not be charged with absurd punishments. Though 'excessive' or 'unusual' is not defined, the court will determine what is appropriate for the accuser.  Or so they say. For the past decade, we as a nation has revisited the charges and punishments inflicted on different individuals for various accusations. One specifically, currently receiving attention on social media, is the intense charge for being found carrying small amounts of illegal substances.
